Re: Hello
thanks for the welcomes people
My Real Name is Paul but as you can tell from this pic i've been given the nickname yeti alont time ago
I'm a VW freak at heart here is my old car
I needed something to tow an old School VW around, and I've always liked the Xterra
its got 88k on the clock and leather interior anything I should look out for maintenance wise?
Oh BTW if you haven't noticed I can never leave anything stock for too long so I'm looking for tips and tricks of easy stuff to do to this truck

Re: Hello
You got the leather interior? Man you are lucky as that is rare!
Love your VW, my buddy has a hard on for old Bettles. He owns 6 or 7 of them, earliest being in the 50's I believe? As for mods...what would you like to do will help us tell you how easy it is.

Re: Hello
Did they give you the maintenance records? Check if the timing belt has been changed, it's an interference engine so important that you don't let the belt break. I think the recommendation is 5 years so even though you have low kms I would check it out. For a really simple thing, the back gate tends to build up tiny rust spots that are on top of the paint not on the underlying metal, these are especially visible on silver, if you use a clay bar then re-wax you can get rid of all that. Other miscellaneous problems that sometimes crop up on these trucks: Knock sensor (esp. important for supercharged engines), cracked manifolds (they may have fixed this in 02?), cracks in the control arms. You probably need shocks as well, the stock shocks don't last long, it can be a cheap upgrade to get better ones. Easy cheap mod would be Poor man's lift (torsion bar crank with new rear shackles). All info on these can be found on here and elsewhere on the internet (but the people here are nicer and may actually come to your house and help you out if you offer beverages).
