Winter prep for your rig?
What is your winter prep ritual?
I like to change the oil and service the brakes all around. Might undercoat. Before having kids I used to wash and wax the truck but getting time aside for that lately is tough.
What do you do?

Wash the worst of the mud off the bottom. Change the oil (cheap stuff down 1L from full so I can top up in the spring before starting) fill the gas tank with non-ethanol gas. Stick it in the garage for winter maintain and modification.

Re: Winter prep for your rig?
I put more gas in it and keep driving it
I've got to call the dealer and see about my undercoat. I paid for it to be sprayed and chipped, but I'm not sure if it includes respraying it or what. Gotta find out.
Being a 2015, there's very little maintenance that I have to do. I'm due for it's second oil change in about 900km, so I'm looking for a good discount on 5w-30 Mobil1... just missed Partsource's deal unfortunately.

And if they tell you it's permanent rust proofing and never needs to be done again... Go to krown.

Re: Winter prep for your rig?
I have parked the wd21 for the winter. So I just need to change the oil and cut the insurance to just fire/theft.

Yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
Also just checked Walmart's website. They have Mobil 1 6 pack on for like $40 until tonight. Part of their Black Friday sale.

FYI Costco has a 6 pack of Castrol edge for 36 or 39 (can't remember) every day.rcafcoburn wrote:Yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

Yes, Costco's normal price for Castrol Edge (synthetic) is lower then the "SALE" price from CT or Walmart.Drizit wrote:FYI Costco has a 6 pack of Castrol edge for 36 or 39 (can't remember) every day.rcafcoburn wrote:Yeah, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

As for pre-winter maintenance - wash them, cleanup any nicks or rust spots, check and service brakes, swap on the snow tires, remove summer items, add winter floor mats, top up washer fluid and add snow brush.

Re: Winter prep for your rig?
Usually like lubing the winch line and putting a cover on it, and also lubing and covering the mechanism on the Hi-Lift (since it sits on the roof rack). Undercoating if I can. Oh, and swap to my legally required winter tires.

Re: Winter prep for your rig?
The only thing I do for winter prep is continue to drive it. My Duratracs are winter rated and it is driven year round.

Re: Winter prep for your rig?
Christ. The list has been long.
Replaced windshield. Undercoated the truck with bed liner. Took out the Royal Purple as it's sh!t in the truck. Put the sliders back on. Still not quite done with that little endeavour. Did a swap of the recovery gear for more winter friendly gear. Made sure I had had good gloves in the truck. Welded the rad supports up. Removed the poop over head lights from the top of the truck..... The list has been long. And all we have so far is fog.

Haven't taken them off, 13-15 degrees today and tomorrow. People talking about going swimming on Christmas day just to have a story to tell the kids.Bow_Tied wrote:Geez, I think I'll put my summer tires back on.

I think that'd be chilly.
Not looking good for sledders around here.
Old man winter is getting soft.

Yay Sum-inter! I was driving with the windows down today. It was awesome.
Sorry for the sledders and shredders. It'll be a rough start to the season, but it'll hit sooner or later.

Counted over ten motorcycles between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
Winter prep continues, putting snow tires on the cars today....in the snow and freezing rain.
