Rear trunk box
I'm interested in cleaning up the back of my X and getting rid of my big Rubbermaid box that has the essentials.
Instead I want to get something a bit neater, when I can across this drawer unit for the X-Trail.
Would LOVE it if they had one for the Xs.
What do people have in their trunks to organize their gear?
PICS please!

Re: Rear trunk box
The only issue with that would be for those who's spare tire stuff is still underneath the carpet... Fill your *unit* full of crap, and then get a flat... That's gonna suck...
Or get one of those, and a tire carrier... Done and done.
Right now, I use a combination of Rubbermaid Action packers (2 fit perfectly between the wheel wells), and 2 tool bags with stuff in them.
I also have a lobo shelf to maximize the space up top. Seems to work for me.
That Unit sure is pretty though!

Re: Rear trunk box
that x-trail unit is factory for current model vehicles AFAIK. The 05/06 that came to canada was before they started including them

And the spare tire on the 05/06 is accessed through the trunk.

Re: Rear trunk box
I have a LARGE Pelican case (3'x4'x2'). But the Xtrail has a removal tray which I may look at bolting a metal drawer to it.

Re: Rear trunk box
hey Medic,
here's what i have in my rig, home made, got the job done.
access from behind back seat to food/etc, a board covered in vinyl and foam acted as a lid AND baby change table, lol
with back seats forward you can access stuff
cargo net
basically, my needs were:
- store stuff
- easily removable to haul bigger items, can be disassembled
- can sleep on top off
- have storage options (each side fits one white bin and the blue rubbermaids, OR two white bins which give you a clever acces to the forward one via hatch, which folds down to complete the sleeping area) middle drawer holds tools/recovery/etc.. and i can use any of the bins to pack clothes/food in, essentially replacing luggage/bags if needed.
great for long hauls, did the job when we drove to BC.
you should make your own medic, fun stuff and it'll fit your needs.

Re: Rear trunk box
Only downfall i have heard of with putting your recovery gear in a drawer is that if your stuck and the rear of your vehicle is against a tree, rock, etc. you can't open the hatch and pull the drawer open to get to the recovery gear.
As previously mentioned by Rev here is a link to a great thread on expo http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/t ... age-system

Re: Rear trunk box
true. but there's a very simple way to avoid this. . . . leave the strap and clevis/etc. out on top or on the floor. the benefit of having this set up far outweighs this small concern.zuknewbie wrote:Only downfall i have heard of with putting your recovery gear in a drawer is that if your stuck and the rear of your vehicle is against a tree, rock, etc. you can't open the hatch and pull the drawer open to get to the recovery gear.

yeah, that is a sweet thread, got some of my ideas from there too. couple guys i know with safaris are on there too with their sweet cozy setups.
you gonna make one medic?! the possibilities are endless. i had planned on making a kitchen module (with sink/etc) that would slide through one of the sections. fun stuff.

Re: Rear trunk box
So many ideas to choose from.
For now, the cargo box has been replaced with a smaller sports bag, stuffed in behind my dog cage,
We have these at work, and they are great, just a wee bit expensive and bigger than I need. A new vehicle is on the horizon, so I'll keep my eyes open.
