Roof Top Tents In Canada?
I've been interested in getting a roof top tent for the Xterra, but I can't find any resellers in Canada for any manufacturer. I'd perfer to not buy from the states, cause shipping and especially taxes/brokerage fees will be killer. Anyone have an ideas?

Re: Roof Top Tents In Canada?
Check with Duncan - Titan Winches on this forum. He's got some available to display at his home or shop in Burlington. Check out his website for more info. There is also Colin Hughes who sells the AutoHome line of tents - http://www.autohomecanada.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - he's north of Whitby.
I've been looking up a whole bunch of different roof-top tent manufacturers (or at least, different brands).
Check out :
Eezi-Awn
Maggiolina
Howling Moon
Hannibal
Columbus
Overland / Overcamp
Open Sky
CarTop Tent
Oasis II
Techni-Top
and Tent-Cots (just for fun...)

I have looked at a lot of these, and I haven't seen a better deal than Titan winches.

Re: Roof Top Tents In Canada?
Cool. Thanks for that info. I'll have to ask
The one I was looking at was the car-top-tent.com/roof-top-tent.com ones. I like it's layout (size and style) and features (optional changing room) and it's a decent price. It's my first one so I don't really want to spend $2000+ and not be happy and/or never use it. It would be great for camping trip where you don't have to worry about terrain or weather and would be great for a road trip. But on the other side, I wonder if it'll be a pain for trips like the Adventure Weekend's where there'll be frequent truck use and hopefully not get in the way or damaged. Mind you, it's suppose to be a super-easy setup.

Re: Roof Top Tents In Canada?
The price on his isnt quite as painful, but I am interested in what it looks like closed, and what it's like to set up.

Re: Roof Top Tents In Canada?
i asked duncan the same question. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if i share the email with you:
Hi Nige to give you some idea this is my own personal tent ( same tent ) the rack behind it is 4'-0" wide i put a couple of things there to give some perspective Xjack bar stool etc.
As for the price . My main concern was i wanted a tent for myself but was unwilling to pay $ 2395 CAD for one so i set about contacting various makers and asked them for fabric samples /specs etc. this particular company went one better and sent pictures of the process from start to finish. Here in Canada there is a very limited Market for this type of equipment . So my decision was that yes i wanted to stock a limited amount of tents but i would also wholesale them on the price .Dealing directly with the maker allows me to do this as opposed to going thru a distributor. The other important point that i had to consider was the tents being sold on EBay . Even though the majority of these use a plywood base ( as opposed to the insulated aluminum ) many people do not know the difference and only look at the end price. As for quality and how well they hold up . The best test for that is still happening . I have a Customer from Burks Falls in ONT ( just north of alqonquin who is presently in Chile with his wife and daughter they have spent the last 4months driving thru S. America including the Amazon. Gilles does send me updates via Email when he can and they have been living out of the Roof Top Tent for the majority of this time ( they do stop at towns and spend a few days at a time in hotels ) His comments are very favourible as to the constant use of the Tent. My own experiences have not been any where near as ardous as his as i only use mine for weekends and 5-6 day trips during the course of a season but i am well satisfied with all aspects of the Tent.
Cheers.
P.S Sorry for the late reply somehow your inquiry ended up in my junk mail.

Do you have a photo of your rooftop tent folded and covered up? I want to get an idea of how big it is when stowed. Why is your tent $800 and all the other tents I see for sale $1000-$2000?

Re: Roof Top Tents In Canada?
I always wanted one of them because i was going to do a nice cross country tour, but i don't know if i have the money for the fuel to do that trip anymore. I had planned my trip to take me 10k km's, but it would have cost me close to $2500 in fuel alone
Maybe if I cut it down to 8 or 6k km, i could do it.
I would still like one for the sheer ease of use and savings on hotel stayovers. 15 nights on top of the pathy and you've broke even
