Scroll the google map east. There are a bunch of what look like country roads just crossing back and fourth.Miner wrote:Hmm, I have waited in that line. I should have adjusted my route

No. But that would be awesome! I'm sure I'll find many opportunities to use it outside of camping.

As for pics... Ok, It is supposed to come today (Thursday) not Wednesday. I messed up the date. It is 1:56 pm and I've been waiting all day for it. The UPS tracking number says it WILL be delivered today. So here I sit and wait. Sort of patiently.

Re: ARB Fridge/Freezer in Canada
I HATE UPS
Today was the day when my new ARB fridge/freezer was to be delivered by UPS. I made arrangements to be home all day (Thursday) to receive the package. I live in a loft so I taped a large note in the lobby right by the buzzer with my buzzer code to make it easier for the UPS guy to buzz my phone. All day I wait by the phone, often checking the lobby watch on my TV as I work away on my laptop. I kept checking my phone to see if I had missed the call. The package never came. At 5:30 I check my web tracking number and it states that I wasn’t home at 5:03 to receive the package.
So I call up UPS and explain this to them, and they say, “We will just deliver it tomorrow.”
I said, “You want me to wait around all day again tomorrow because your driver couldn’t be bothered to buzz up to my apartment?”
So the guy says he will call and see if the driver can come back after I point out he was at my place 25 minute previous to our conversation and I was sitting at home waiting to receive this package.
Ten minutes later I get a call back from UPS saying he is not going to come tonight to deliver my package because the driver would get back to the yard late.
I asked why I should be inconvenienced all day and he, who did not do his job, can’t be inconvenienced for an hour. I again asked why he would enter the lobby and not call up. I got some BS that since my buzzer code wasn’t the same as my unit number, and since it wasn’t printed on the package that the driver probably didn’t have time to look through the directory (We have an easy to use electronic directory). I pointed out the sign I had clearly printed that a blind man couldn’t miss, and the fact that he never left a slip saying he had come by and missed me.
I said, “I don’t think he came at all and I want to log a complaint.”
She dismissively said she would speak to the driver’s supervisor, but I doubt she will.
So frustrated! I always have problems with this company. I hate UPS.

Re: ARB Fridge/Freezer in Canada
That sux. Tell them you want and inconvenience payment of $50 or you are logging a complaint with the better business bureau.
How far away is the depot, you could pick it up to avoid it being kicked to your place and register a complaint in person.
Rip 'em a new one!!!!

Re: ARB Fridge/Freezer in Canada
So after some trial and tribulation my new 2009 ARB fridge has arrived in Canada! Man, I can`t wait to use this thing. It is aesthetically attractive and solid feeling, despite the plastic. I actually like the plastic. It looks like it could take some punishment – not that mine will ever see any.
I plugged it in (you have to hold the power button down for a couple seconds), and set the temp. After driving 45 minutes it was already at 5 degrees. I let it sit for a couple hours and the truck started right up (single stock battery) as if it didn`t notice it was there. I`m leaving it running tonight to see how the truck starts in the morning.
I hope you like pics because I have a few.
There is a slight discolouration on a little bit of the blue plastic on one spot, but it is hardly noticeable.
The display is very user friendly.
The new latch system is extremely secure.
Here you can see the pretty decent interior light.
The interior is generous.
The lid opens wide in my Xterra.
Without the flash you can see the glow of the interior light. Should work well for nigh time trips to the fridge to grab a few `pops` for the campfire.
The handles are secure. Two straps and it didn`t move after 2 hours of driving. I would want a better way of securing it for camping, but with the trunk empty this will do in a pinch and installs in 2 minutes in the Xterra.
It sits flush with the top of the back seats and perfectly between the seats and the hatch with a few inches to spare.
The fridge was purchased through Wil at Sierra Expeditions. He was great to work with and did all he could to get me the fridge quickly. We tried to get it to Toronto before a week long camping trip two weeks ago, but that couldn`t happen for reasons beyond Wil`s control. Nevertheless, I`m glad I held out for this item. It was a pretty penny, and the GST and duty hurt a lot, but I`m sure it will be with me a long time and I am so happy to never have soggy food ever again.

Holy cow! Thank goodness for digital. If I snapped pictures like that of the kids pre-digital, I would be living on the streets!
Nice looking unit. I was seriously looking at one, but I like mushy food more than my bank account allowed me.

Re: ARB Fridge/Freezer in Canada (pics added)
Ya it is pricey, but the fridges you show are not in the same category as the ARB.
There are a couple main differences. The biggest is that the cheap one says, "Cools to 22°C (40°F) below surrounding temperature " That means if it is 40 degrees in your trunk (easily conceivable and then some) then your food is sitting at a very unsafe 18 degrees all day. Whereas if you set the ARB to 0 degrees it will stay at 0 degrees.
The other is amp draw. The site doesn't event list amp draw. But it certainly won't be nearly as low at the ARB. You want a fridge you can run all night at 5 degrees and still start your truck the next day.
In this case you get what you pay for.
We had spent a lot of time considering buying a trailer ($5,000+). Instead we opted to buy some quality camoing equipment (tent, screen room, fridge etc.) and spent about $2,0000. When you look at it that way we saved money and are very comfortable and happy with our set-up. If you spend 2-4 weeks a year camping these luxuries are well worth it.
