Seat belts
Hey folks,
Small issues - the rear seat belt pre-tensioner no longer is reliable. It usually decides to stay in the jammed position, so it won't release. From what I understand, many companies have a life-time warranty on the hardware of seat belts (Honda does this). Is this true with Nissan as well?
Why do I ask here instead of calling Nissan? So there's a record for everyone else on what the deal is with replacing seat belt tensioners and I'm lazy.

Re: Seat belts
I'm sure someone has, but the forum was down for 2 days.....likely why there's been no response.
As for the seatbelt....funny thing....pull out the seatbelt ALL the way, and see if there's something in there. I once found a penny jammed against the "drum" where the seatbelt wraps, and my seatbelt would lock all the time. Worth a shot.

Re: Seat belts
On the jeep the front belt winders are right at floor level just behind the door so you can imagine the amount of crap that gets in there when driving with half doors or no doors.
Mine jammed and smacking it a bit with a hard object while playing with the belt got it working again. Apparently was just a bit of shmutz in the locking mechanism.

Re: Seat belts
OK. That's the info I wanted Adam. I've cleaned the winders on other belts but this one (rear passenger) is a bugger. I suspect belts are warrantied so folks don't just pull the tension spring out. Or just stop using it. It's a first line of defence in an accident. So let people have them for free.

Re: Seat belts
They told me that if it was just dirt they would charge you, which is poop, but anyway. Mine was the same as yours, rear passenger one kept getting stuck like 3/4 of the way out so no one could sit there.
The ones on my parents maxima needed to be changed too. Nissan makes crappy seat belts.

Re: Seat belts
Up to, and including 2002 model year the seat belts are warrantied for life (dog chewing, or jamming and tearing in a door not covered)
2003 an up models it is covered for 10 years, unlimited mileage.
If a seatbelt is "slow" to retract, the first place to check is the "D-ring" at the top of the B-pillar. The seatbelt does a 270degree turn here.
It is a location that dirt and whatnot builds up on after 10ish years or so. Check under the belt on this spot, it should be clean and shiny to slide properly.
If it's the spring mechanism that's getting stuck, then it's just replace time.

Re: Seat belts
You are brilliant. When I have I chance I'll give you a call and we can have some new parts put in.
