What ANNOYS you about your Nissan?

Post by Bow_Tied »

We all love our Nissans in the end or we wouldn't have them. But there sometimes are things that cause annoyances it'd be nice to vent about or commiserate with others about. Maybe it's a little thing that bugs you daily or a major thing that only bugs you once in a while.

For me and the pathfinder the daily things that bug me:
- Dipstick tube very hard to reach and doubly so in dark
- And due to the above - no under-hood light (on a premium trim model no less).

What's your beef??

The doors - windows are under powered, seals allow wind to move them more than any other vehicle I've ever been in.

...that's the one that might not be on everyone else's Top 10 list.

What ANNOYS you about your Nissan?

Post by Scotto »

I agree with the window motors. Also how easy they scratch. The windows - not the motor.

Why does the cross member for the hood - the one the hood latches into - have to crack on either side of the lock down?

Why does the idler arm need new bushings all the f'n time?

What's with the dreaded clunk in the front end? And back end if you have leafs back there?

Why does the windscreen always crack?

Why is the knock sensor in such a stupid location?

Driver window auto down, but not up. Passenger gets no love at all.

Headliner material pulling away from the headliner at the windshield.

And all of the above things mentioned.

No auto sensing headlights.
No sustained power when you turn of the truck...windows have delayed power but radio turns off.
No new Titan or significant change in over a decade!!!!
No direct injection.
No 6.5 box on Crew cab, now only available on SE Crew Cabs.
No (no longer) 6 passenger seating on uptrim Crew Cabs.
No engine light.
No 6-8 speed transmission.
Where's my damn diesel already?
No unlocking hubs...decreased mileage with increased wear.
Slow windows.
No bluetooth.
No E-Lock in 4Hi and 2Hi! Ford can do it...and at every trim level.
No LSD option on trucks without the E-Lock.
No 3.54, 3.73 or 4.10 gear options.
No E-Lock unless Pro-4x, so if you want chrome, 6 passengers or a long bed your not aloud traction.
Not enough payload.
No concept how to build a manifold...robs power, cracks every 100k, can kill engines.
No factory front locker or sway-bar disconnects on Pro-4x.
No options! Packages only. Let me build the truck I want from the available options and configurations!
Did I mention how limiting a 5.5" bed is?
No parts stock at dealerships...not even a thermostat!
Undersized axles!
No heated seats without leather.
Seat material is thin.
Weak heated mirrors.
No integrated brake controller option.

That's the short list, I'll think about it and get back to you.

What will really annoy me is if they don't carry key features into the new truck, or if it can't be configured properly:
- Keep the rear power slider, or make it bigger.
- Add 6.5', or longer, beds to all crew cab models.
- Make the bed dimension exactly the same as Ford's, so we can use all the same accessories.
- Bring back 6 passenger seating availability on all models.
- Ensure a 33x12.50 (minimum) will fit stock.
- Keep the tie down rails, ditch the storage box.
- Add an integrated brake controller.
- 12,000lbs, or more, towing capacity with diesel.
- 10,000lbs, or more, towing capacity option with gas.
- Better brakes.

How can you tell Josh is an Engineer? :P:

Seriously though, that's quite the list. Of course, knowing that you have been considering/looking for a different truck, I'm sure that this list at least partially came from doing a pros/cons to compare new truck vs. current situation.

I had a few things that I could have added to the list about the Xterra, but the majority of them were things that were considered luxury items back when the X was made.

And I also know that the motto for the X was "Everything you need, and nothing you don't:, which is a really clever way for Nissan to skimp out on a ton of little creature comforts without reducing the price.

Indeed. I just think the half-assed stuff like the weak LSD is more annoying.

Why my truck keeps eating wheel bearings.
Why didn't they intercool the Supercharger (probably cost, but still, the damn thing is so paranoid)

The fact the front hood seems like the dang thing is going to blow up at you everytime you pass a semi going the other way or even in a stiff breeze. The fact that they do not put a valiance or spoiler on the back roof rack to direct the air flow down over the back window hell even the old station wagons from the seventies had that or am I the only one sick of have a back window that I can never see out of. Also a bunch of what Miner mentioned

X2! If wasn't for the rear wiper, I'd see nothing.

Great thread. My wife points out that the passenger seat belt winds slowly so when you close the door the buckle jams. Which really pisses me off too.

Ha! My rear wiper has never cleaned the back window anyway... So, um, that?

Nope, only contacts about 3 inches at the bottom of the wiper. Tried all kinds of stuff, but in the end removed it. From my vantage point all it did was make it easier to read the license plate on the car behind me.

The pathfinders have this spoiler, it actually works quite well. I hardly ever use the rear wiper.

As for things I hate:

-Steering, and the fact that you can take it for an alignment, drive around the block, and when you put it back on the machine it comes up nowhere close to where you've set it.
-Rusty window trim that costs $100 a piece at the dealer to replace
-The hood shakes when you hit bumps. This doesn't really annoy me but everyone comments on it, which does annoy me.
-crappy cup holders
-The oil dipstick thing bowtied mentioned
-Underpowered for towing
-Crappy headlights that use the 9004 bulb (only 45w low beam)
-Wind noise

Really have to agree with Miner about the dealership parts stock, I don't know if its just the dealerships near us but they never have ANYTHING. I went with my friend to get the o2 sensor sleeves for his 03 xterra. The guy at the counter knows what I'm talking about as soon as we say xterra and manifold o2 sensor. Told me oh yea we sell lots of those, but we don't stock them. WTF??

They do have rear deflectors for the Xterra, several options for the, 1st and 2nd gen. I want to say there was even an OEM option on that.

I use a helper spring with a 13" reflex blade. It works wonders and clears the rear window beautifully.

That's one I forgot! Constantly reaching over and helping that belt to fully rewind. Nissan says to clean the upper 'loop', which doesn't do squat to fix the problem.

Also squeaky seats! Multiple service letters to fix all because they can't properly bolt the seat frame to the seat back! The seat material also stains very easily, in addition to being to thin as mentioned earlier.
