Turtle Tally
The Toronto Zoo continues to look for observations for their TurtleTally/adoptapond projects as well as their frog watch program. Please contact them at the zoo if you want to help. They have info packs available if you need help in identification of speices that need help. It's for Ontario Wetlands which we all love. Tell them you are from CNTC.

Re: Turtle Tally
Ontario has 8 species of turtles. The painted turtle. The Snapping Turtle and Northern Map Turtle both under special concern. The Blanding's Turtle, Stinkpot Turtle and the Spiny Softshell Turtle are all listed as a threatened species. The Spotted and Wood Turtles are both endangered.
They are just looking for info. about location, populations etc. They provide the turtle crossing signs you see on the roads around the lakes.
It's very simple to report your sightings to their web site. Same goes for frogs....but don't get me started about frogs.

very cool kdj. thanks for sharing. this is fun for the kids. once witnessed a snapper lay eggs and hoped to see the wee ones come out. you rarely see the babies in the wild.

Re: Turtle Tally
Saw a snapping turtle playing golf one day. The guy I was with picked it up. He must have had experience because, the turtles head came out and back over top of his shell to bite the guy. Pretty cool. He was holding it at the sides, so he didn't get bit.
