Can't start on cold morning

Post by dududuckling »

Hi guys, I need another help... I parked the truck outside for two days. Then when I tried to start it, it just makes clicking noise. All the lights in the dash lit up as usual. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks

Battery is dead. See if you can boost it.

Still has enough life in it to get some lights on, but not enough to crank the motor.

Thanks. I hope its the battery and nothing else.

It will start okay in the summer, weak start in the winter, then totally dead this morning. Voltage is 11.1 and the data in the radio has been reset.

Yeah. The battery is dead. And doing a reading with a volt-metre doesn't actually tell you much. You want to read the amperage.

Lucky! I thought my battery was dead, replaced it, same problem... Note I'm climbing under the truck tomorrow in a snow storm to change my starter... God help me

You should still have your charging system checked. If the alternator is not charging the battery properly you will end up with another dead battery eventually.

Already done. Batteries (old and new) are both good, Voltage when the truck is running is 14.8. Smart charger had yet to show either battery below 90% capacity. Even checked the connections to the starter and they all seem to check out. I think it's the Brushes finally packing it in. I've owned the truck since 86,000km, and it's at 214,000 without ever having a starter, so it's not like it owes me anything :P

Will do that. Voltage when the truck is running is 15.1 with the new battery. I assume the alternator is good.

Also, I went with another Optima Yellowtop with 750cca. Then I read that the Eliminator has about 950cca. Is the Canadian Tire Eliminator a more superior battery than the yellowtop? They're about the same price too.

I just bought one myself today. I seen that Eliminator on the shelf (950 cca) and its pretty big in size. I wanted that one to, but settled for the one that actually fits. (730cca). During the install in the parking lot I could definatly tell the 950 would never fit. If you set on that one I'd measure the old one and new one.

I as well have had this problem, but I just installed a battery charger/maintainer.
