Welding on the trail

Post by Ozzker »

I Came across this, seems like a pretty easy to piece together kit that could help out if someone were to have a serious malfunction on the trail. Anyone heard of this or seen this before? Thoughts?

Yup.

But there are actually pieces of equipment out there that remove the danger factor. Here's the principle in the above video, but with a ReadyWelder, used on my truck, because walking out does suck:

I've seen a few reviewes in some of the 4wd magazines recently that simply showed cables hooked up to batteries and using arc welding sticks. Although if you were completely stuck on a trail, even I would attempt it, but if I had a choice, I definatly wouldn't want to try it. I've seen enough batteries explode to not want to attempt it.

I have a cable setup for that in my truck. Cost me like $80 for the cables and all accessories. Is worth it for the "just in case" factor.
