Snapped tie rod in half. Wildpix and I found a welding shop in town to weld it back together, it's back on the truck, got me back to town, but it's still bent and I can't get the jam nut to tighten. Need to check ball joints etc in am and see if it's safe to drive home.

Oh, wait, you asked what happened??? Too much skinny pedal....

I think I may order that king kong steering system Monday..

I know It's been 3 years since I did that trail (hard to believe) But it sure didn't have those offshoots when I drove it last. I had a couple of spare tie rod ends but no adjuster unfortunately. I do believe a truck of the month pic is in the works though!!

And that right there explains why yet again Mike broke his junk! We have a rule that states no bringing yer junk to the trail, new rule for Mike should state don't bring yer rig to the trail and make it junk! :)

That's an expensive option. I seem to recall the CL that is the King Kong system relies on using heim tie rod adjusters and ends. The whole thing comes in at well above a grand.

But - you can run just the upgraded heims as your TRE/TRA setup with the stock CL. Which would certainly be stronger, but still hasn't solved the ball joint on the CL problem. And, AFAIK, heims aren't legal on our roads, so if you get into an accident, you're royally fuggered.

Anyway, this is a conversation for another thread. Hope you get home safely.

Made it back to milton fine, no issues. Dropping the truck in the shop and gonna drive a versa home... DOH!

oh and Jay.... suck it.. ;)

John, post up a pic asap, I want to see what I did, all I got to see was sky and the aftermath...

Scott, ya, it'll probably come in around $2000 with shipping etc, and I believe you're right about the "legality", however it's a strong steering system, and shouldn't fail.

p.s. 2 feet in the air is nothing... ask Simon about the last time he let me drive his rig. LOL.

John, you are correct, there are A LOT of off shoots now that weren't there before.

We missed that action riding at the back of the parade! Nicely done, Morpheus. Glad to hear you got off the trail and home safely.

Hmmmmm? That looks very familiar Mike!!! Thank god Pete brought a spare tie rod with adjustor when mine broke. We were able to change it out on the trail. A good thing to have in your trail kit that's for sure.
