Re: What did you do to your rig today?
lol...yeah but I never looked to see if I got any on my hootus.
BTW this stuff cures faster on my hands than it did on the bumper. After I was done painting and cleaning the spray gun I tried to get it off my hands...very little came off.
BTW 2 I was surprised at how much I used with the spray gun...HPLV is far better than I thought once it is set-up.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
You mean HVLP right? Is there another type of paint gun I am not aware of? I have mastercraft set that came with a big one and a small touch up one. I painted my friend's pathy with it. It turned out "okay" for painting a vehicle for the first time LOL.
Shouldn't have used single stage paint though, he didn't keep it waxed and it turned from Aztec red to almost Xterra Orange in 2 years.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Yeah, HVLP (doh). Once you get it set up it works fairly well for a $40 gun.

Nice work! It will wear off your hands eventually. Get a good sweat on and that'll help too. Should be off within a week.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Thanks! I figured it would eventually come off and I am glad I am not meeting clients this week. If I wear some disposable gloves around the yard my hands should get nice and sweaty. I would look weird but the neighbors are use to that.
Neighbor gave this gnarly brake cleaner that removed baked engine enamel off his commercial diesels. It would not touch the stuff once cured...works great when it is still wet. So I will keep it around for the next job.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
These arrived last week:
(initially ordered mid-May, follow-up order early June and finally arrived)
It would have been nice to have installed them last weekend but UPS decided to deliver just the springs and forget the 3rd package with the hardware. As per the driver he 'forgot' the third package and would be 'by the next day with it and the invoice'. Driver was a no show. What a douche.
Phone and email to UPS all conclude that the shipper has to contact them to start an 'investigation' to find the package. UPS will start nothing even though their system is telling them that the package was not delivered when it should be and indicates it was lost.
The shipper was 'out of town' (surprising the company was away for a week) while this was happening and finally made the call to UPS today. UPS will now take 8-10 days to try and find the missing package somewhere in Kitchener.
Even better news, if they cannot find the package they will work out reimbursing the shipper who then needs to reship the parts (if in stock).
So these beautiful springs sit until the rest arrives.
Ugh.
Lesson learned...if the number of packages is more than the number of hands of the UPS driver the excess packages will be lost.

Can't do until f-UPS finishes their investigation. Definitely a dumbass system they use.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Got the rear suspension all fixed up. The drivers leaf pack had a double arch to it, so I thought I had a tired leaf pack which needed refreshing. It turned out that I ripped the spring perch off the passenger side, and stretched the u-bolts so that they were not holding the leaf pack tight to the axle, so the drivers spring pack was solely responsible for controlling spring wrap, and was not looking so good. Spring perch welded back on, new flat bars welded to the spring perches, driver side leaf pack re-arched, and I'm ready for the trails again with the same leafs I had before.

Ron, have them ship you another box of hardware now, then return the one when they find it.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Thanks for the tip!
Tried the heat gun trick to the bumper cover. Just on a small spot to see how well it works and last. It took a little while until I found the right amount of heat but it did work. Will see if it will last at least a week before doing the other bits.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Was down in Burlington for the weekend, and lost all my gauges. James and I traced it the wiring harness for the trans coming loose and hitting the manifold. Fixed that up and no more blowing fuses, and now I know how fast I'm going!

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Gave the tow rig a work out helping a friend.
Apparently my ramps weren't up to the job, they will need some bending back and welding but I think they will recover. Trailer did fine and the Dodge could barely tell the difference between the loader and the jeep.

Impressive pull. Steer clear of the inspection stations with that one.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Lol yep, in town on the weekend only. Amazingly other than going from a full stop up hill it felt no different than having my jeep on there. The extra 10k or so lbs just didn't faze the truck.

Built rear bump stop extensions. Broke every bolt taking the old ones off.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Rear brakes were yesterday's job. Brackets and calipers cleaned up along other bits under there. Sand blasted the bits (excluding calipers), etched with phosphate then applied rust reformer paint: once dry the bits were baked in a toaster oven I stole from the kitchen (do this when the wife is not looking).
Also cleaned up my nuts. They were so shiny that I had to paint them black. Hmmm, new name for the truck...Paint it Black.
Today's challenge, the front brakes, SMOD mod and cleaning/painting bits in the wheel well and elsewhere.
