Spare tire mounting question and help.
Anyone have any ideas on spare tire mounting? My mount on my 02 Xterra was under the back bumper but the chain broke off and is lost. Can I replace the chain and end section that holds the tire in place? Is it an Nissan part? Or do I have to replace the whole unit?
Anywhere in Toronto to get it fixed?
Thanks for your help in advance.

The chain and crank are all 1 unit, but you're probably best to try a pick and pull yourself wrecking yard, or just throw It on the roof rack and tying it down.
New they're $240+tax.

Or time to upgrade to an off-road rear bumper with integrated tire carrier...

Throw it in the back of the truck.

Roof check : Going to travel so it might be removed in the middle of the night.
Off-road rear bumper with integrated tire carrier : Wow Big $$$ / out of my budget.
Back of the truck : Need that space for packing for a trip. Also not sure I want that heavy projectile even with tie down strap back there in case of an accident. :O
Anyone parting out a truck that might have one?

I made myself a hitch mounted tire carrier. There are a few options for those as well.

Mine's stored in the back, is over 100lbs (36" TSL), and it didn't move when I flopped the truck on it's side. Mounted properly in the cargo bay, it isn't a projectile, however it does take up space.ARCTICboy wrote:Back of the truck : Need that space for packing for a trip. I store items in the void of the rim, and on top of the tire, all strapped down, and for my purposes, there is stil lots of room for cargo.

Wreckers, I'd look for one off a newer Titan or Frontier. I assume they are all similar, they may differ a bit for different center bores but I'm sure you can make it work.
