Should I undercoat?
Expecting my new Frontier in a month or two. I declined the dealers $6.00 electronic magic box he wanted to sell me for $800.00. What is the preferred undercoating for members vehicles here?

Re: Should I undercoat?
Krown every year
Anything that's a permanent life time one is ether bs, the "life time" is about 3-5 years (before you are supposed trade it in) or it will crack and trap moisture and cause it to rot more.
A liquid oil like krown doesn't do that, and provided you start within 6 months of buying the car and keep it up every year they will also offer a lifetime anti corrosion warranty.

Krown, Rust Check, etc. Never a "no drip" product, it needs to flow and drip to cover and work.

Re: Should I undercoat?
Be careful about doing the doors. I did a mine at Pro-oil this year because of a good price through groupon and the spray messed up my rubber door gaskets/seals. I am pretty sure that the Krown product is safe form that problem. The previous owner used Krown and the gaskets were fine when I bought the truck a couple years ago.

Re: Should I undercoat?
Krown is great but a total b*tch to wash off and it oozes out for months - you need a wash mit to remove it that you wouldn't want to use on the rest of the car.

Still better than dealing with rust though...My X was done by the PO and it is very clean other than a few spots where rocks have damaged the paint.Bow_Tied wrote:Krown is great but a total b*tch to wash off and it oozes out for months - you need a wash mit to remove it that you wouldn't want to use on the rest of the car.

Re: Should I undercoat?
Agreed. Just the pita factor. If I was buying a new car that I knew I'd trade back in within 5 years I wouldn't undercoat just for that reason though, so annoying... maybe it's because it's so visible on a white vehicle.

Re: Should I undercoat?
Oh I know all about that since mine is white, haha. I usually just use some of this to remove it and it works well:

Re: Should I undercoat?
The service manager recommended Krown to me lol! I was forced to have the "magic box" to keep my rust warranty, even though that tech has been totally debunked on cars and trucks (apparently works on boats though). I had a door replaced under the rust warranty so not complaining.
DO NOT wash off the Krown underneath, only where there is a nice paint finish. They don't always tell you that. Especially in the winter! I sprayed my leaf packs and rear frame with a pressure washer the first winter I oil sprayed the X. It removed enough of the residue to start some rusting.

After a few winters, you won't be able to just pressure wash it off lol.

Re: Should I undercoat?
Lol seriously? You had to take the magic box installed by the dealer or the factory corrosion warranty doesn't apply? I call bs there, and I'm betting Nissan would be a bit miffed to know a dealer is saying that an over priced box proven to not work on cars is doing a better job than all the work they did galvanizing the body.

Re: Should I undercoat?
Yep. The extended warranty is third party, and it involves accepting the box or they can void it. Most extended warranties are like this, no idea why they adapted this box. They know most people won't/can't afford to lawyer up too. It just sits on my fuse panel box in the engine bay and is pretty much out of my way.Drizit wrote:Lol seriously? Re: Should I undercoat?
Lol well as long as they don't try and change $600 for the box like chrysler. I suspect if the box fails they will blame that for the rust and say it's your fault for not fixing the box in a timely manner.

My Nissan dealer tried to charge me $800.00 for that 2 dollar, made in China, piece of crap.

Would be even funnier if it was the box that was rusted.Adam wrote:My dad actually believes it works. Lmao. I pulled one off a Frontier at the junkyard and it was all rusted (the truck)...
