How boo-boo'd?

All four corners got new stuff on today. Cleaned up underneath (blasted some, painted others, rust-proofed hard to reach areas). Took a while but it looks good. Let's hope it stops.

SMOD mod for another day :(

Both Nuts that compress the Strut top hat and spring are seized on and can not come off . Not sure how as we didn't cross thread them on , i assume that they jumped a thread while under pressure from the spring and that cross threaded them.

Bright side , i have a S model , i ordered a set of Bilstein 4600 Struts should be here thursday and install friday at the latest :P

Replaced all four leaf spring packs, and rebushed the equalizer bars on the travel trailer suspension. The orginal springs were starting to defrom "plastically", espescially the right rear. The springs were starting to look like w's not u's. Job went well, impact made removing the old hardware much easier and only one spring bolt stripped.

Greased the hubs before reinstalling the tires, checked it over and its ready for our road trip.

Those are nice.

I am hoping to get new leafs in the rear this weekend. Anyone wanna come over?

Also trying my hand at making a cargo net. Turning out good so far. It is giving me ideas to make one for the roof rack too and perhaps custom orders for friends ;)

I was already running single digit pressures on non-beadlock rims, however rocks were killing my rims. Since I needed at least one new rim, and wanted to protect against future rock damage, went with beadlocks as opposed to rim stiffners, and now I have the option of going even lower into single digits.

So far a rebuild kit from TotalChaos in California, and maybe upper control arm bushings from 4x4 parts in Florida.

I might have a couple spare bushings that were still good from the last time I rebuilt the control arms. Need to check my toolbox tonite.

I am sure you are after Mike's carnage details and video, but while you are waiting for his, here's mine from a few weeks ago.

Running 8-9 PSI in the tires, second half of the footage, repeated attempts at where the video ends resulted in collateral damage to the right rear rim...lip folded in, sounded like a compressed air nozzle, beat it back into position with a sledge, but it was never the same...air leaks from four different places on the outside lip from multiple hits to the same rock due to multiple attempts trying to get through the gap. Ended up winching...with a flat...until we put the spare on mid hill...then still had to winch. Nissan t-case gearing is not low enough for that type of hill climb, and clutch was starting to smell.

https://youtu.be/QBjnhhQ-qTM

Hence the need for beadlocks...that flat tire ruined the climb for me.

Did you ever change the axle gear ratios with the taller tires? Just curious

I didn't, but the guy who built it put 5.38s in there; speedo is off by less than 5%. I don't think axle gearing is the issue, as it drives alright in high range. Low range just isn't low enough for crawling boulders...plus it's a heavy bugger.
