Different Forums

Post by PhullD »

I was just wondering about the different Xterra forums. There is Clubxterra, Xterranation, and NewX. I am a member with NewX, but was wondering what other people think about the other two? I know this forum was originally yet another Xterra forum....why so many? lol

Are some better than others?

I looked at a few threads on other sites and found a lot of people will hate on you for trying something different/not sticking with the norm.
It was ridiculous. TheNewX was the best of the other forums, but I like CNTC because everyone is local(ish) and overall a great friendly group.

I found this sight via NPORA which is dedicated to Pathfinders - it is substantial for tech data. I consider NPORA and the newx to be forums whereas I consider CNTC to be a club (that has forum software).

There are different reasons new forums start. A cliche gets POd with the admin or moderation team and so start their own, or some want a more focused forum - for example there are lots of Camaro or mustang forums that cater to all years but then there are some that are generation specific. I have also seen a core group start a new forum after their favourite gets bought out by a big forum company that monetizes the hell out of the forum pissing off the charter members.

Different flavours. Some regional, some are friends, some are helpful, etc. Each has their own flavour

Happened a few years ago in the local jeep world. A few people with the technical know how on the major local jeep forum got fed up with the attitudes and started their own. Lots of like minded people started posting there and promoting it with their friends... Now it's far more active then the old forum but we have 2 major Ontario centric jeep forums now.

I was on clubxterra. It was good for the 1st gens. It was a slow loading page for me. Couldn't handle it after a while. Good information though. Then the 2nd gens were joining. Got a little confusing. I joined the newx, because I thought I was going to get one. Never did, but I thought it was a good forum.

I'm on NPORA, this board, and ClubXterra. Honestly, ClubXterra seems way too commercial but then again I noticed it is owned by some forum company.

There is also Xterra Owners Club, and XterraFirma.

I agree with Bow_Tied, I like the NewX for it's ideas and such, but when it comes to organizing runs and stuff you really need a local club.

Is xterranation bigger than newx?

I couldn't speak on XTERRANATION being bigger or not ( I'm a gen1) but XN is packed with detailed info, very well organized, search function is pretty good, and my favourite part on XN is the plethora of build threads. I've gotten so many awesome mod ideas and technical info from there.
