New battery. The ol 2008 circa motor master spiral gel cel gave up the ghost I believe due to my alternator failure a few months back. Picked up a new style eliminator at CrappyTire anD popped it in, in the parking lot. They put the old one on the machine they have and said it was dead. Paid 98 bux for it. They pro rated the warenty on the old one and I still had the paper work in my file.

Nice work on getting some warranty money.

I put my cold front on finally, and got my block heater cord out. Now I gotta find the extension cords and timers.....

I was thinking about getting a block heater for mine, it doesn't have one for some reason, my old one did. How hard are they to install?

Thanks! It was a total PITA but I saved $1000 doing it myself. Drove it to a potluck dinner last night and it shifts like a new truck!

Yes, hard to install - a block heater replaces a core plug (aka freeze plug) in the block.

An easier install, and IMHO a better solution us to get an inline heater/pump that goes in a heater hose. I had one on an old Parisienne wagon. Started that thing in -33 easily and heat inside of a minute.

Getting ready for body lift next weekend - removed skid plates, door sill trim, oiled body mounting nuts again, removed lower rad shroud, removed annoying white caps from above nut-heads inside truck, fixed heater in garage, etc.

Does your BL require a longer fuel filler neck hose? When I helped do one on a fronty it was dicey to get it to go and there was lots of room to get hands on - but it might be a different configuration.

I've been told keep an eye on it, but it shouldn't be a problem on a 2003 Xterra.

Removed the xmas lights. Went to put in new fog bulbs a few weeks ago but one was corroded and snapped the pin in the connector, so wired up a new connector. The truck has been randomly giving starting issues, trying to crank her she acts like the clutch pedal isn't full pressed, so I swapped th clutch interlock relay with the one for the fog and did the clutch switch bypass mod, which is handy for off-roading, but also if it happen again I'll be able to tell if it's the clutch switch or not. Also replaced the smart entrance control module. I blew the rear defrost circuit by taping the ground triggered relay with my own ground triggered relay for my heated mirror; it was either too much draw (as little as it is) or it back fed 12v into it.

Noticed yesterday that one of my rear shocks is hanging, the lower mount bolt snapped. I'll have to go see the guys that fabbed up my rear suspension. It shouldn't of happened, I haven't offroaded since AW unless it's the wheel hop from the crappy Ranchos that cause it.

Pulled a Toyota Echo out of the ditch yesterday. Fairly easy pull, he had done a U-turn on a paved country road and went a bit too far and slid in.

We couldn't use my recovery strap with the sewn loop ends as the shackle I had with to connect to the car's tow hook wouldn't fit; the shackle's bolt was too large. I think I will look into getting a slightly smaller shackle for this issue. I ended up using an tow strap with hooks on the end. The pull was easy enough, my Z in 4LO didn't even strain, or I wouldn't have used it.

Do you all carry different size shackles to connect your recovery straps to other cars?

yeah, I have a variety of different sized shackles in the truck. The biggest problem is that a lot of cars don't have tow points, or the front cowling drops so low that I become wary of trying to pull the vehicle out. I dragged a guy backwards up a hill not long ago b/c the only accessible tow points were on the rear of his little Kia.

I've gotten to the point, due to the issues of possible damage and the way cars don't have tow points, that I will help call a tow-truck instead of helping out with a pull.

I agree - if the tow hook isn't visible below the bumper forget it. It was actually quit accessible on this echo.

Guess I'll get some more shackles. Needed an excuse to go to PA anyway.

Last recovery was our daughter's Maxima from the back of the yard. It has two nice points up from with tiny slits to attach too. As my shackles are all to large I used my short grade 70 grab chain to connect to the strap from the tractor. I'm not sure if I'll look at smaller shackles, or just leave vehicles without "proper" gauge recovery points to the professionals.

Most new cars have a spot in the front to screw in a recovery point, which usually is kept with the spare tire.

Or if it's too old, you can do this ;)

But that was a friend who called for help. We doubt any real recovery/tow trucks would of went to help, the road was so icey a snow plow on chains ended up in the ditch and on my way out, the road was closed off by a cop.

Replaced the neg. terminal today. Stock one didn't chinch up tight to the new battery I did last week. Image

Also swapped the "constant" 12volt cig. plug that was cooked. Image

Hopefully she warms up. Got a few things to get finished on the wish list.

EDIT: pic of the neg. post was cut short :/

Nice battery  I have the same neg terminal on mine, can get them at princess auto for a dollar!

Drained some atf because I over filled it a bit. Collected that atf and dumped it into my leaking power steering lol.
