Hi all
I just joined the forum but have been following it for a while.
I've owned many Nissans over the years but this is my first Xterra. The list includes a B11 Sentra, a B12 Sentra a B13 Sentra (still have it) a R50 Pathfinder (still have it) and two D21 pick ups.
I've been following the on line classifieds literally by the hour over the past month looking for an Xterra to replace my 98 Pathfinder, I had no idea how popular these things are. I quickly came to the realization that to get a good one at a decent price required a combination of luck and speed, as in being the first to reply to promising ads. Well two weeks ago the stars were all aligned and I found exactly what I was looking for, a solar yellow 2002 XE with a 5 speed manual transmission. I actually paid $300 more than the asking price due to a bidding war with another guy but I prevailed and he was pissed to say the least. Anyhow, the truck is a bit of a fixer upper but that's what I was looking for given my limited budget.
I have to replace the windshield, right hand exhaust manifold, leaf springs, rad support, knock sensor and since I don't know the maintenance history, I ordered up a timing belt with tensioner and a water pump. I also have a set of WD21 Pathfinder aluminum rims with 31/10.5 Michelin LTX tires that will be replacing the stock steel wheels. The good news is the body, it's super clean with literally no rust aside from the aforementioned rad support...What's up with those?
I guess I've said enough for now but as the project progresses I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.
Bye for now,
Steve.

Welcome!
Search the forum for "manifolds" or "headers", and for "knock sensor". The most common / preferred solution for both is a FIX not a repair / replace with the factory parts.
