Had to get my truck towed.
Water pump blew in it. She bled green for a while.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
New fog light bulb and another tranny drain and fill with oil change. Change in weather brought back the funny acting transmission. Me thinks I'm on borrowed time...
I think I had actually overfilled a bit last time. This time I was very (even more so) careful with the level, and figured I couldn't lose by trying the Lucas stuff again. Time will tell.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Did the oil change last week and today regreased all 8 caliper sliders, rotated the tires, and greased the front end. I enjoy it when I can do some basic maintenance without the truck fighting me like it does on some projects, lol.

Replaced the driver's side valve gasket.
This was a remarkably difficult project.

For all the time on the project, the beer waited until I was done for the day.

I have to do the same job in the near future. It doesn't look too fun.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
The problem is that the space is so tight. There are some bits that are really tough to get to.
This should be in how-to, but, as a helpful bit of info for you:
1) There are two rad hoses connected to the backside of the plenum - an in and an out. You'll never disconnect them. Use an extendable exacto to reach in there and cut them. You'll lose about 1/2 a bottle of rad fluid to the floor of the garage. When reinstalling, you could try to make these rad hoses longer, to give yourself a little more breathing room, but I couldn't figure out any good way to do this. Both are very short runs. One has a 90* turn in it. The other is straight up and down. When putting it all back together, connect the bottom of the hoses first, and then - believe it or not - you can push the plenum down and onto that vertical hose. You'll have to do this a few times, as there really is no good way to figure out how long the rad hose should be - so you have to connect it, learn it's too long, cut the thing... Then do the 90* one, which is a very short run, and the hose must be kept short or it will kink badly (but see tip #2 before this step). You'll want to bolt the plenum down before reefing that POS back on. During this process your vocabulary will rapidly shrink to one single phrase: f**k me. Plan on two hours for this part of the repair.
2) There are two harnesses to unplug under the plenum. Towards the back. One - which appears to control fuel injectors - has about 1" of play. Do remember to unplug them before completely removing the plenum. Plug these back in after the first (vertical) rad hose is connected but before the 90* hose is connected, as you'll never reach them - ever - once both of those rad hoses are reattached.
3) You don't need to remove the dizzy, like the Haynes says. Or the throttle and cruise control cables. Just remember to attach the throttle controller to the throttle body before bolting the plenum back down. And don't spin the plenum around too much or the throttle cables will go into a knot. This is shockingly easy to do.
4) The gasket for the plenum is tricky to line up, as there's no room to get your fingers in there. Just don't forget to get one of those gaskets when ordering your new valve gasket.
5) Do your very best to save the bolts for the valve cover. They are quite expensive to purchase from Nissan. The 5 plenum bolts are cheap, and it is likely that you will have to drill out one or two of the heads of them when attempting to remove. You will likely need a tap to clean some threads - both at the plenum and at the valve cover. Before installing the valve cover, and connecting rad hoses to the plenum, check that all threads actually function.
6) Anti-seize everything on the re-install.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Let me see...started with an oil change (240,000km now) got that down to a tee with no drops, then started onto the fun project of the day. Spark plugs. Driver side you could do missing an eye and a patch over the other, but the real fun started with the passanger side. So much fun I think it'd be rude not to thank the engineers for desinging such a curse wording project. Thanks engineers. Ive done them before and a manifold spacer, but this was a freakin nightmare today. I just had a whole lotta fun trying to raise the intake manifold and it fought me the whole bloody way. Gotter done, but man. Oh BTW platnium tip plugs are recomended on the VQ40's. Just a heads up.

Changed front struts, rear shocks and miscellaneous mounts, bearings and seats on the V70. 300,000 km on what looks to be the factory original parts...and every bolt came out clean and easy. Really impressed with Volvo right now.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
So the pathy dies on the 427 South pedal goes limp and then she shakes and dies got towed home, narrowed it down to the fuel pump so ordered it Saturday got it Monday started to pull the take lots of fun only got half way and had to stop to dark and cold. Today got the tank pulled replaced the pump put it all back together not to bad going back together.
Started up after a couple tries to prime it now it runs its drivable but have a bad idle 400 and 500 rpm. Going to take it in to my shop asap. Ive done all i can do.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Made a new winch cable in time for the winter winching season.
One of my struts are broken. The OEM ones I got from Snafu a whle back that I pit in this year after blowing out my rear 9000's after less than a week snapped one of the eyelet. I can't put in one of the new shocks cause I'm affraid of blowing them again, so I have to wait until I get my lift done, which I'm waiting on my rear leaf springs, which should be in this week....should...

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Installed a new Steering box. Turned out I didn't need to. The friggen power steering res. filter gave me a false "full" reading. When in reality the res. was completely empty. Kindof frustrating. But at least I have a new steering box and my truck only uses one lane now X-D

How is she running? I'd like to know what happens to your mileage after you stop "testing" the tune and wasting those 35s.Nismojunky wrote:Fresh tune layed down some 35" rubber testing it out and removed the cats & changed the front O2s

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
running alot smoother problem is he cant get enough fuel to it so were looking at a weak fuel pump, and trust me didnt want to lay that rubber down. Im not catless for now so we will see fuel mileage is better we will see once i run a can of seafoam threw her possibly a leaky injector could case her to run this lean, and a huge bank inbalance 13.5afr B1 and 14.8 B2 so trying to figure that out

Could take it in and have the injectors cleaned. I don't think it is that much. Check with Mikey.

Re: What did you do to your rig today?
Thanks for the advice scott. I ordered the gaskets today. I also ordered a steering package from 4x4parts. Now that I got a shop compressor I can get work done easier.
