Finally working on the X!

Post by grant »

Yes, I procrastinate. Yes, it has been months.

I am finally lifting the hood on the old girl and investigating the broken t-belt situation!

You know I will brother! Just got a face full of coolant and can't get the fan off! Now I know why I was a service manager and not a tech!

Fun stuff! Are you 100% sure the timing belt is snapped?

Oh yeah....that's a pretty sure sign. Hopefully you don't have any bent valves. Good luck.

Happened just off idle, leaving a stop, so I am hopeful. Getting frustrated with cooling fan that won't come off!

Assuming all the nuts are loose, give the clutch a tap. It might be seized on there a bit. Otherwise, cut off the water pump belt, and that'll allow the pulley to come loose as well. Might still need a quick tap to do so.

Took the fan off, fan clutch is still stuck on the water pump. Have done more than just tap :x

Top cover is off and belt is intact. top and one side are taught. One side is loose. Hoping this means that tensioner let go and belt skipped a tooth. Heading to PA shortly to pick up a puller and a 27mm socket.
