Hoping someone can help

Post by Mudlvr72 »

Ok....so here's the situation. I did some work to my 2000 Xterra 3.3 litre, that required me to take the upper intake plenum off. I replaced the gasket, reset the computer, and checked for any vacuum leaks. Now here's the problem...when I start it up it revs at about 750 rpm once at opporating temp, but once I put it into drive or reverse (under load) the rpms jump to about 1500. Generally a vehicle's rpms should reduce under load? Any suggestions on what I should check...I'm stumped.

Thanks

Yeah, kind of sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere.

How did you reset the computer? You may need to perform or have performed an idle air relearn to reset the base idles or you may have put it back together improperly.

Bender had it right....I put it back together improperly. Didn't have the lever on the TPS sensor infront of the pin for the intake butterfly. The ECU couldn't tell the throttle position.

Thanks for the help everyone!
