What is this?
Anyone have any idea of what this thing is? My first thought is that its some sort of brake bias controller for use when towing. But I'm not 100% sure. Do i really need it with the lift? Isn't it going to be WAY off when Its stretched out?

I think that is the ejector seat pre-tensioner.

Re: What is this?
Get rid of the spring, and leave the rest of it there. Your back brakes might actually start to work again

Re: What is this?
Keep it on, but stretch the spring out. That way, the rear brakes will work better.

Re: What is this?
Thats not my rear end. Its another guy in the NPORA club. I'm on my way to looking similar to him.
Stretching the spring will work Simon? wouldn't removing it all together make it work the best? My rear end is going to be 6 inches higher with these new springs. I don't know if I can stretch it that far.

Re: What is this?
Stretch it, that way, if you DO load the rear down with gear, it'll still add braking force at the back. Leaving it completely unhooked will cause it to brake the same all the time, which could actually make it seem to behave very differently depending on how you're loaded.

Re: What is this?
Could he put a spacer link in to partially compensate instead of stretching it? Could be an option.

Re: What is this?
If you want to keep the spring, just move/ extend the bracket that is bolted on the diff so that the spring maintains its OEM-like orientation.
Simon's right, as the spring stretches, you would have less rear braking, and if the spring is collapsed/missing, you would have more rear braking. No spring might cause you to swap ends in slippery conditions because of the braking bias being largely in the rear.
I figured that Rod would see that as a welcome challenge.

Re: What is this?
It looks like a load sensor for your brakes...I've never thought of it but I have to agree with Simon. It will increase your braking power if stretched which might not be a bad thing for challenging downhills.

Re: What is this?
Right now, I have NO rear brakes. I'm not sure if anyone remembers my "2 km/h trip through my front yard fence? If I were to drive onto a skating rink (don't worry Jayman, I won't) the fronts would lock up, leaving the rears to drive me forward into whatever stands in my way.... No matter how hard I stand on the brakes or yell the Eff word. it never seems to engage the rears

Re: What is this?
That's because the spring is already pulling the lever (due to your 2" lift) Basically, since then, you've had no rear brakes. If you stretch the spring back out, they should start to respond better. Currently, your truck thinks it's carrying 1000lb extra in the front or so, so all the braking power is there, when in reality, the truck is simply sitting higher, and brake power bias should be as stock.

Re: What is this?
Alrighty, I'll stretch the bad boy out. I may just take it off and experiment with the braking. If it sux, I'll put it back on, stretched out.
