winch

Post by nathan »

So I was looking at getting recovery straps, but then i seen at can tire a winch for 400. Its a 8000lbs. Does anybody know what one is better or if a couple straps is needed would it make more logic to get the Super winch.

No offence intended, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Superwinches. Those winches have towed my ass out of more crap than you can imagine. Plenty of folks here who can testify to that. Let's not misinform.

Which model would you recommend not just for the price but usability?

The ones I see most commonly on the trails are the EP and EPi series winches. EPi series winches are internal solenoid winches with a slightly larger spool of wire rope on them although I can't recall how much longer than the external solenoid series (EP).

http://www.superwinch.com/EPi9_9_000_lbs.html

Not sure how much they currently cost, but they're typically under $900 for a very tough, easy-to-use and reliable winch.

You probably use it! Of course it will break. If you got a lemon, well I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad it works well now.

I've only used it 3 times, but was flawless each time... If I had to buy again, I think i'd spend the extra $$$ and get the winch/compressor combo to have onboard air too.

I LOVE the fact that it's wireless.. I don't have to attach a lead with a wire (although it comes with one and I can use it if I want to) I can sit in the truck, and drive it while operating it using the wireless remote, or I can be 30+ away from it and operate it.

I'll 2nd the vote for Titan Winches. I have had but 1 problem with mine (solenoid) which was replaced for free by Duncan. It's faster than any superwinch, warn or t-max. And the horsepower in the motor (power isn't ALL generated by low gearing) is bested only by T-Max. Duncan has put a lot of R&D into these things turning a cheap chinese winch (they're built there, to Duncan's specs) into a true competitor to Warn and T-Max.

Which one did you get? The 10 000? It comes with wireless controls or did you get that separately?

I got the 10,000lb. The wireless came with it, but I added a roller fairlead and synthetic rope.

I'm pretty sure that Duncan's winches (Titan) are set-up to the standard specs to fit any winch bumper.

The only one that people may have fitment issues with is the dual-purpose one (compressor and winch), and the issue there is how tall it is.

Well my dad surprised me and got an 8500 SuperWinch for Christmas. I was planning on getting a TitanWinch but I can't complain. This will do for my first winch, especially since I can't afford to buy any at the moment, and they definitely could of gotten a cheaper winch but this one seems to be pretty good. Guess we'll find out
