Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye

The ghost is still around. The canyon isn't quite 11 months yet, 37000+ km on it, real economic on gas, so far its its been bulletproof. Its nice being back it a pick-up. I did look at the jeep, didn't mind the ride that much, but I found the interior extremely limiting space wise (mind you, I was c...

Re: Block heater watt usage.

Block heater = good, interior car warmer = waste of money. A number of years back, I went that route, actually I had 2 warmers. Never blew a house fuse, but I did have to use a heavy duty timer. Those interior heaters were glorified hair dryers, they were only able to get the slight chill out of a s...

Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye

Guess its official, Monday I'll be in a GMC Canyon xtended cab (poseur offroad model) A pick-up won out due to convience, (the wranger is no xterra space wise) Look wise, the gmc was ahead of the Frontier and to my surprise, rode alot better, we're not talking offroad. With all the added discounts, ...

Re: After 10 years, maybe Good-bye

BTW.. if I do get rid of my X, I might strip it down a touch. Anyone need crossbars (got 3), basket net, mega centre console, seat covers (still in semi good condition after 10 yrs), rims (outlaw II) As per my norm, most of these are to be given away (I might sell the rims for a token price though) ...

After 10 years, maybe Good-bye

Noticed an oil leak under my X, looks like I've got a crack in my transfer case. Might get an estimate, but I have a feeling I'll just look at something new before I start digging a money pit. My X has been bulletproof, but age and kilometers are waving its head. The real puzzle is whats next, SUV's...

Oil cap

I know it was a semi issue long ago, but I can't remember the fix (if there was one). Long story short, my oil cap seems to fall off, twice in the past 2 months, both times I found it in the engine bay. The cap will either twist on firmly, or will snug up 95%, then pop off. I've ordered a new cap, f...

Re: Wheel spacers,pro and con

Not that it matters, but I've been running my Outlaw II rims for 9+ years now, (31" tires, PML) compared to stock, it threw out my rims approx 1.5" and I always loved the look. No ill effects. Stock rim on my 2000 are 40mm offset / 5.25 backspacing, Outlaws are -6.35mm offset / 3.75 backsp...

Re: How do I... change the dials on the dash?

I know the odometer can be changed on the 1st generation, some guys did it on their 2000's, I don't follow the current models, sorry. Your cheaper alternative would be to hard wire a GPS unit into the X, and use it for speed. If you think you "need" the km for registration, you don't... my...

Re: Really bad draft

tape it all into place using aluminum foil tape (not the cheap kind either). Once both doors were done, I was frozen, with my hands near frost bitten, but quite proud of my work. :-) . Just a note, the aluminium tape would have peeled off unless you get the sub-zero tape, and all versions of the ta...

Re: Really bad draft

Cheap solution (not a cure though), add heated seats. I've had them for years now, makes a good difference when a warm butt overcomes the draft. Canadian tire has the seat warmers on sale at least twice a year (they're at $10 this week), install them under the seat covers so no one is the wiser, it ...

Re: Ontario's New Rules For Hand-Held Wireless And Entertainment

Due to the wording, GPS's are technically against the law here in Quebec, but very rarely enforced.
As far as the winter tires, try storing 16 of them.. had to make a cabin for them all.

Re: Ontario's New Rules For Hand-Held Wireless And Entertainment

Well.. Quebec is already well ahead of you guys, manditory winter tires started last winter, cell phone 2 summers ago, and they are nailing people for it left right and centre, and still are. The one thing I noticed, Before the law, you saw a few people on the phone while driving. With the law fresh...

Re: Adding more insulation

mmm insulation.. where have I heard that term before... maybe daily for the past 40 years :) most of the stuff that you want isn't available in the box stores, you'll have to look up "Mechanical Insulation" in the yellow pages. (I believe my supplier goes under the name "Impro" i...

Re: hatch will not open

Happened to me once, turned out a t-shirt got jammed into the locking mechanism when I closed it. I had to climb inside a pull the shirt while a friend pulled the handle/hatch open. Might not be your case, don't think you can remove the rear panel with the door closed, but I do think there is a smal...

Re: D-Rings on stock bumper

Nice job, my only comment is out of ignorance... I understand how you mounted and welded everything, but are the rear frame rails on a '06 similar to previous models (ie.. hollow?) It still might be a weak point. What comes to mind are the frame stiffeneners availabe for hitch use... same principals...

Re: blades

I bought the ones at costco a while ago. I didn't think they lasted that long. I had them through the winter and they just seem to fall apart. I don't think I will be buying them again. The rubber kept sliding off the ends becasue the little caps had fallen off. I've heard the same thing happen to ...

Re: blades

I've tried the forementioned ones (Reflex > Canadian Tire, Rain-X > Walmart), currently I'm trying the cheaper Costco version (Michlen I think)... all three brands wipe the same. I also increased the blade size (1" or 2" longer in the front, 1" more in the rear)

Re: Hitch Install Help

Those instructions are for the U.S. OEM hitch, which is nothing like the Cdn OEM. We get reinforcing plates, but they are nothing but glorified " L " brackets. (no bumper removal needed) I've installed several hitches on multiple years, the exhaust has to be played with until you find the ...

Did mine 2 week-ends ago... all 16 tires ;) changing tires was easy, trying to figure out where to store them was the hard part.
