Re: Starting problems
Thanks for that suggestion! It seems to offer the same functionality for considerably less than the one Adam has. Is the current $14.99 the sale price or the regular price? Either way, it is priced so low it would practically be irresponsible NOT to buy it

Re: Starting problems
Thanks for clearing that information, Adam. I just don't know how much I'm going to be driving the vehicle in the coming months. If things go one way, I'll be using it almost every day. If things go another way, it might only be a couple of times a month. It's anyone's guess at this point. I'll cert...

Re: Starting problems
I've never heard of a battery tender before but Google brought me this hit (among others): https://www.homedepot.ca/product/battery-tender-junior-12v-750ma/1000846237 The description isn't very clear though. Do I have to have it plugged into the house hydro 24/7 and unplug it every time I go somewhe...

Re: Starting problems
Just to finish my saga, I called my local Carquest and asked about battery orientation and he educated me on the whole orientation issue. It turns out that all the pictures I'd looked at - and the live batteries I'd seen in the stores - simply had the positive terminal on the right because that orie...

Re: Starting problems
I disconnected the connectors from my battery and connected the jumper cables from my battery connectors directly to my brother's jeep (with the XTerra battery out of the circuit) and the XTerra started. Out of curiousity, we tried it with the Jeep not running to see if that would be enough to start...

Re: Starting problems
Do you know which battery group has the positive terminal on the Left? In other words, do I want 24 or 24R? The battery at Princess Auto claimed to be a 24R but it had the positive on the right and they didn't have any 24s. I haven't been able to find anything that confirms that an R means that the ...

Starting problems
This is a bit of a long story so I apologize in advance. I've been having some trouble starting my XTerra the last couple of weeks. Rather than giving you a detailed play by play, suffice it to say that initially I was able to get a boost to get the vehicle started and i was then able to drive aroun...

Re: XTerra - minor electrical issue
On hold for now. It's not a priority since the other two ports both work fine.

Re: XTerra - minor electrical issue
I finally had a chance to get together with my friend and look at the problem with the outlet in my XTerra. In a matter of moments, he demonstrated to me that there was no problem with the fuse, which I should have realized myself from the start since my inflater would work for a couple of seconds b...

Re: XTerra - minor electrical issue
I'm still trying to get a bit of spare time so that I can get over to my friend's place. He'll have the necessary tools and skill to help me remove the fuses without breaking them and to test them properly. I have neither. I hope to get to that point in the next few weeks.... I have a couple of addi...

XTerra - minor electrical issue
My XTerra has 3 electrical "ports" (not sure if that's the right word - the kind people used to put cigarette lighters in) and the one by the back gate konked out on me the other day. I had just plugged in my portable compressor to top up the tires when it chugged a couple of times, then d...

Re: XTerra lurching when backing up and making tight circle
I found it! Just to the right of the RWD/4WD-HI/4WD-LO selector. That helped me find it in the manual. Apparently, that's only ever supposed to be engaged in 4WD-LO at very low speeds when trying to get unstuck offroad. That's why I've never noticed it before. I only went into 4WD-LO for the first t...

Re: XTerra lurching when backing up and making tight circle
Yes, it is the Offroad. I've even got a 2007, just like yours. I'll look for that locker button when I get a minute, now that I know where it is. (I don't remember seeing any mention of it in the manual but maybe the official name is different.) When should the locker button be on and when should it...

Re: XTerra lurching when backing up and making tight circle
Thanks VERY MUCH, Drizit, that really helps!
As luck would have it, my friend has a hoist and says we can do the test you suggest next time I'm over there.
From now on, I will use FWD considerably less than I have been.
Thanks again!

XTerra lurching when backing up and making tight circles
I don't know if I have a problem or not. I'm having some unexpected behaviour so I want to ask YOU, fellow XTerra owner, if this is normal or something to be concerned about. It's a 2007 XTerra Offroad that I bought used in 2016. It's always used on the street, not offroad. (I truly wish I could go ...

Mechanic recommendation in Kitchener?
I hope it's not against the spirit of the forum but I'd like to find a good mechanic in Kitchener. I moved back to Kitchener recently but the guy I used to use (many years ago) retired long ago so I don't know any mechanics any more. By "good" I mean competent and not crooked. (I've had me...
